Are thermal clothing and heated clothing the same thing?
Although they serve the same purpose, they have different characteristics.
What are the purposes of thermal clothing?
Maintaining a constant temperature, promoting sweat evaporation and being waterproof are the main objectives of these garments, guaranteed by their multilayered fabrics.
Primarily used by athletes, they are also worn by those who, for work-related needs, are forced to stay in very humid environments.
Thermal shirts or pants maintain a constant temperature, providing what is called thermal comfort, which is the proper well-being of the person.
What materials are used?
The materials used are different:Â polyester, polypropylene, and merino wool.
Polyester is used by amateurs, second one by those who require better performance, and wool for those who engage in a rather static activity.
Thermal garments are mainly worn close to the skin or under heavier clothing, and for this reason, it is better if they offer some ease of movement.Â
What are the characteristics that differentiate thermal clothing from heated clothing?
Heated clothing is not always worn directly on the skin; our WARMME vests or leg warmers, for example, are worn over jackets, sweatshirts, or jeans.
For this reason, the material also changes, although it is always breathable and can be of different types. Moreover, heated clothing performs its function thanks to heating circuits positioned inside the lining powered by a battery.Â
What do they have in common?
We have just seen how these two types of clothing differ in composition and characteristics, but not in function.
Both, in fact, aim to warm the body during the winter months and can be used not only by athletes but also by workers who have to stay outdoors for many hours.
Both also facilitate body movements thanks to the materials they are made of. For example, our heated socks are perfect for those who engage in trekking or mountain sports and require clothing that is soft and versatile at the same time.
